the pope vs. the weasel
According to USA Today, an Italian animal-rights group has asked Pope Benedict to stop wearing fur-trimmed hats and robes. It is reported that the Italian Association for Defence of Animals and the Environment has collected about 1,900 signatures in an online petition. Benedict has been seen wearing a red velvet cape with a white ermine border and matching hat. Ermine is the white winter fur of a small weasel that looks like this:

Oh, I agree!...you have to wonder about the choices some folks make...one of the previous bishops in another diocese used to wear a red sequined cope...ok, not animal issue...but still, a red sequined cope (you know that cape thingy bishops wear)....
It's good to be back looking at your blog! After reading "The Omnivore's Dilemma," I am wondering how one can wear or eat animals. . . .I never wear them, but eating is a tricky subject. Benedict should be setting a better example! Good picture.
