Hi Barbara! Came here because I saw your question about locating a spiritual director at Purple's FF from last week. Didn't know if you would come back and see an answer there.
The professional organization I am a member of, Spiritual Directors International, has an excellent website at sdiworld.org. There is information about spiritual direction in general and also a directory which you can search geographically for directors in your area. I generally speak to several on the phone till I get one that seems like a good match and have a test in person appt. Some people also recommend meeting with three directors once and seeing which is the best fit. Many directors, even if they charge, will give you one free try it out appt.
If there aren't many people in your area or you don't like the ones you find some directors also connect with people by phone or even email....I do, though I haven't had many make that choice thus far as not everyone is comfortable building a new relationship long distance.
