not again!

First they "updated" (and by that I think we mean "ruined") Strawberry Shortcake, and now they've done it to Rainbow Brite! (Apparently this happened several months ago (story here), but I just found out about it.)

The original:

The updated:

WHY?!

At least the Sprites are still cute... that is, until they get personal trainers and develop skinny waistlines.

more signs of the divine?

Dan and Sara Bell of Texas recently found what they think is the likeness of a praying Jesus inside a bag of Cheetos. Their Holy Puff (nicknamed "Cheesus") is about two inches tall and has a body, hair, robe and even a tiny face -- but, sadly, the right arm is missing.

Hmmm... that makes me question their assumption of divinity. I mean, couldn't "Cheesus" have fixed/healed his right arm?

I think the cheeto isn't a likeness of Jesus, but rather a likeness of the old country man on the Led Zeppelin IV album.

Cheesus picture and full story from here.
Googled the Led Zeppelin album cover.

peeps!

The Washington Post recently posted their Peeps Dioramas, and, frankly, I'm inspired. Next Easter, I'm definitely going to create one!

This year's winner was "NightPeeps", Melissa Harvey's tribute to Edward Hopper's famous "Nighthawks" painting.

My personal favorite was "Peeps of Wrath" by Diane Page. I think the Joads look great all "peepified".

You can see all of the top 40 finalists here.

strawberry update

Looks like Offspring #1's old friend, Strawberry Shortcake, is getting a makeover. (She's also getting a new toy line, computer-animated movie, and TV series. Related story here)

I'm not sure I like all of the ch-ch-changes. On the up side, S.S. will be shunning gumdrops in favor of fresh fruit. That's a good, healthy choice. But on the down side, she'll be seen holding onto a cellphone instead of her calico cat, Custard. Awwwww, say it ain't so.

I suppose it won't be long before Brainy Smurf has lasik done and buys a Kindle from Amazon.

(Come to think of it, I'd like a Kindle from Amazon.)

etymologically speaking...

We arrived home from Tennessee (great trip all in all!) and have been doing the usual post-vacation laundry, put-away, etc. I'm not quite up to my usual blogging speed yet. Sigh. I will never be a blogebrity if I just do this microblogging. But, alas, I must turn my attention back to the floordrobe and carbage.

Are those some nifty new words or what?! Here are the definitions as found at word spy, a site that sleuths new words and phrases which have appeared in recent newspapers, magazines, etc. (Check out the other cool words there!)

blogebrity: n. A famous or popular blogger. [Blend of blog and celebrity.]

microblogging: pp. Posting short thoughts and ideas to a personal blog.

floodrobe: n. A pile of discarded clothes on the floor of a person's room. [Blend of floor and wardrobe.]

carbage: n. The garbage that accumulates in some cars, particularly in the back seat. [Blend of car and garbage.]

idol thoughts

Ah, a new American Idol was crowned tonight. I think Jordin will go far. But let's face it, the sixth season of Idol would have been Dullsville without the high entertainment value of Sanjaya!

This picture of Sanjaya with Offspring #2 was taken in Seattle during the recent high school band trip. (No faux-hawk, but a great picture nonetheless.)
