Friday Five: Read Any Good Books Lately?

Here is this week's Friday Five from revhrod over at RevGals:

1. What book have you read in the last six months that has really stayed with you? Why?
One of the books I am currently reading is Suzuki and Dressel's Good News For a Change: How Everyday People are Helping the Planet. After reading so much ecological bad news, it's nice to read some upbeat stories about people who are making positive environmental contributions to our world.

2. What is one of your favorite childhood books?
Going waaaaaay back, I loved Put Me in the Zoo by Robert Lopshire. The things that animal could do with his spots were amazing. Really.

3. Do you have a favorite book of the Bible? Do tell!
Presbyterian Gal asked me this a while back when she "interviewed" me, so I'll stick with that answer... I said Mark since it is (as far as I know) the oldest gospel and therefore probably the most accurate portrayal of Jesus' life.

4. What is one book you could read again and again?
I almost never read the same book more than once. (So many books, so little time!) But, I did re-read Jack Finney's Time and Again because I love books about time travel.

5. Is there a book you would suggest for Lenten reading? What is it and why?
No, but I'm open to suggestions.

And because we all love bonus questions, if you were going to publish a book what would it be? Who would you want to write the jacket cover blurb expounding on your talent?
Hmmm... My grandmother was pretty darn cool, so I'd probably write about her life, times, wit, and wisdom. It would be a quirky book, so I'd have Garrison Keillor write the blurb for me.

Thanks for the reminder of Put Me In the Zoo. It's the first book my son read by himself.

TIME AND AGAIN.....absolutely amazing book (cip...great to be able to compare the 'then' and 'now').
Barb...I'm wincing with guilt for spilling koolaid on your copy. A new one just isn't the same. Glad you have a forgiving heart. :)

p.s. and I would LOVE to read a book about your grandmother. (I can see a hint of your firstborn in her picture)

What a lovely photo! You mentioned some intriguing titles that I think I need to put on my to do list. Thanks!

Added "Time and Again" to my Amazon list. Somehow the Zoo book missed us!

I'd read about your gram as well. I've often thought of writing a family saga myself. We have Dustbowl, the Great Depression, WWI and WWII tales. Garrison is definitely the guy for the book jacket! Just as long as you promise to Photo Shop my picture next to him *hee hee*

I loved Time and Again and Put Me in the Zoo!
We have several church members who've written family stories. I'm sure I'd love reading about your grandmother just as much as I've enjoyed the family stories of others.

quirky is good. go with the story of gram. but then truly you have to write "lost in the woods without my snowshoes: but it's okay i got a pistol packin' presbyterian gal with me" now that would be a humdinger... truly.

jacket flap? garrison would do this one too. surely.

thanks everybody for your comments!

dust bunny: umm... it was actually a different book on which you spilled a gallon of koolaid

presbyterian gal: that would work because I look for any and every opportunity to photo shop you!

hot cup: brilliant book idea!!! :)

I always love the images you put on your posts. Thanks.

The book you're reading right now sounds excellent. I am belatedly realizing I should be writing down all these good suggestions. . . .

Need to read the one about Good News/Ordinary People Helping the Planet. May we all follow their lead quickly.

I love Put Me in the Zoo! You are the very first person I've ever met (well, virtually met) who chose that as their favorite Dr. Seuss! Cool! So nice to read that other people who commented liked it too. Haven't read Time and Again, but I will have to find it now...sounds intriguing.
