cheesy art (in more ways than one)!

Just in time for the 4th! A man in Wisconsin has carved a 700-pound block of cheddar into a replica of Mount Rushmore. You can read the full story here. (Is it just me or does Washington look a little like a troll?)

I have relatives who live near Mount Rushmore, and I'll bet the reaction to this cheesy sculpture will be mixed. In fact, here's an early response from a local prairie dog:

(thanks to Offspring #2 for alerting me to the dramatic prairie dog on youtube)

For someone who isn't terribly fondu cheese, this is excellent! :) The prairie dog makes me howl.

That's hilarious!!! I knew kids had some value other than keeping you up late worrying about them..(kidding).

As a frequent visitor to the Real Thing, I'm not so sure that the cheese (though delicious) is a suitable substitute.

marie: "fondu cheese" --aargh! :)

diane: LOL on your "value of kids" comment!

Uh Oh, do prairie dogs like cheese?

Oddly, I'm cooking homemade macaroni and cheese tonight, with the return of my youngest daughter MJ from camp. It doesn't seem as appetizing as before I saw Mount Cheese-more.

Actually I thought they all looked rather troll like.

What will happen to the cheese after all the oohing, ahhhing and eeewwwwing and acccchhhhhing?

"fondu cheese", there is definitely a pun virus going around the blogs this week.

Each time I see Mount Cheese-more, I remember the daughter of a good friend of mine who is going to grad school at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. She says that where she lives is so close to the factory that makes Velveeta cheese that the whole atmosphere of that area smells like cheese, or more specifically, Velveeta!
