Wile E. and Me

I have happily settled into the routine of commuting to work with my bike on Mondays and Wednesdays. Since I work Monday through Thursday, this means I am bike commuting...

*tap tap tap* [feverishly hitting the keys on the calculator] *tap tap tap*

...50% of the time!

Optometrists spend a good hunk of their day in dimly lit exam rooms with no windows. (Did I hear an "Awwwww, poor Barb" ? Thank you.) So, the best thing about the bike commute is that I am able to enjoy the 'great outdoors' to and from work. (I have chosen my route so that it avoids as many city streets as possible.)

This morning while riding by an open field, I came across a coyote. (Actually there are two coyotes who seem to make this little field their home.) The coyote was pretty close to the road, but he started bounding away as he saw me approach. I was able to get this picture:

It's basically a good thing he started heading in the opposite direction, but I would have gotten a much better picture if he had stayed put!

Wow, still a good picture! They're kinda cute, I hope the "farmers" don't give them too much trouble :(

Good for you, biking to work! How far away is your office from your home?

I'd start looking over my shoulder if you notice any empty ACME boxes around Wile E's neighborhood!

great exercise for you, good for the environment, and what a picture! sounds like a win-win-win.

Whatever you do, do NOT say "MEEP MEEP" as you ride down that road.

Congratulations on biking.

Remember how roadrunner used to run so fast that his legs turned into a blurry circle? Let's hope that coyote doesn't decide you're a double roadrunner on that book.

If you see any cartons marked "Acme," cycle out of there as fast as you can . . . and check for booby traps over your head!

david, I think they are kinda cute too! (And I feel a bit sorry for them because they don't have a very big habitat.)

laura, I'm not sure of the exact distance, but it takes me about 35 minutes to bike to work and about 40 minutes coming home (always a bit of a headwind on the return trip). Will keep an eye out for the ACME boxes :)

pg, good tip, because I am often tempted to say "meep meep" when I ride my bike :)

diane and rev ss, thanks for the encouragement :)

ruth, I think I'm safe--I don't pedal so fast that I'm a blur :)
